New Americans SSI Advocacy Project (NASSAP)

Do you have a disability and need help to apply for SSI benefits?

Do you want to keep your SSI benefits after receiving a termination proposal?

If your answer is “yes” and you currently receive any type of public assistance such as: GA, GAMC, MFIP, Medical Assistance, Minnesota Care, Food Stamps, Group Residential Housing, etc., NASSAP can help with no cost or charge to you! The experienced staff of NASSAP can provide you with free assistance . NASSAP can help you with:

· Explanation and counseling about SSI benefits and the application process.

· Disability evaluation and preliminary eligibility assessment for potential enrollment of SSI program.

· Gathering medical/psychological information to support the disability claim.

· Completion and submission of SSI application.

· Arrange appointments, interviews, or appeals related to the SSI benefits claim.

· Assistance to keep SSI benefits if Social Security Administration proposes termination.

· Interpreting and cultural liaison to represent refugees and immigrants in Minnesota, primarily East Africans (Somalis, Sudanese, Oromos, Eritreans, Ethiopians, Ugandans, etc)

· Any other services related to the application, disability, determination, and appealing process to obtain or retain SSI benefits.
